Noseless Jack Russell terrier brings comfort, joy to Toledoans
When Mirabel was found wandering the country roads of eastern Kentucky, the little dog was in bad shape. She was covered in fleas and ticks, her toe nails were embedded in her paws, and she had mammary tumors from over-breeding.

Toledoan earns degree 68 years after leaving college
There’s plenty to Bob Barger’s life story. He’s a World War II veteran and former flight instructor for the U.S. Navy. When he left the military, Mr. Barger helped raise a family and held a successful job as a salesman. And Saturday, Mr. Barger finally became a college graduate.

Teaching King goes beyond what, into who and why
When Nick Neiderhouse was growing up, he said lessons about Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., didn’t entail who he was or why he mattered. Instead, students were primarily given descriptions of Reverend King’s actions on specific dates and where they occurred. But now as principal of Wayne Trail Elementary School in Maumee, Mr. Neiderhouse said educators now are delving more into not only who Reverend King was, but how his life can serve as an example for people today.

UT study: Fewer toys can lead to better play for toddlers
It’s the Christmas season, that magical time when parents, grandparents, and aunts and uncles blow through their bank accounts to fill up any open space under trees with as many toys as possible. But a new study released by the University of Toledo came to a conclusion many parents won’t find too surprising — fewer toys presented at once can help toddlers “focus better and play more creatively.”

South Carolina teenager rides through Danville on cross country bike ride
Scotty Parker was angry at his parents. Not because they took away his video games or made him do the dishes.
He was mad because they never told him not every kid in the world had access to the simple necessities in life, such as clean drinking water. Parker was 7-years old and had just learned about areas of the world without access to clean water at church.
